Waivers on the age requirement

Postby johnnyford on Tue Jan 06, 2009 10:22 pm

Hello

I am Johnny Ford, currently active duty navy, looking at retirement in the next three years, I have wanted to get into the Federal Law Enforcement arena for the past 6-7 years or so. I will be 37 years old when I retire in 2012, I will alo have my BS/Criminal Justice/Crime Scene Investigations this year. What, if any options do I have to apply for an air marshal position, given the age requirement. Are there any avenues that I can take. Thanks for your time.

Johnny

As you know 1811 positions have a mandatory retirement age of 57. You have to have 20 years of service in order to retire. This is why you must be hired before your 37th birthday. Every agency can petition the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) to waive the maximum hiring age. This is sometimes done when an agency has the need to hire a large number of agents. This rarely happens and is even rarer for an agency to request a waiver for an individual.
